Super Sunday was truly super: Alliance far exceeds fundraising goal

Super Sunday is the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island’s biggest fundraising day of the year – and this year’s event proved to be a tremendous success!

The Alliance had set a fundraising goal of $30,000 for the Dec. 5 event, as well as a goal of connecting with 360 donors. But volunteers went above and beyond, raising more than $80,000, including a generous $5,000 match from the Bazarsky family for all new and increased gifts.  The volunteers also connected with over 500 donors through phone calls or thank-you notes.

Twenty Super Sunday volunteers made phone calls from the Alliance’s Dwares Jewish Community Center, in Providence. Twenty more volunteered from remote locations, either making calls from home or from satellite locations at the University of Rhode Island Hillel and Temple Shalom, in Middletown. Also at Temple Shalom, an additional 30 community members wrote thank-you cards to donors. Co-chairs Brauna Doidge and Abigail Anthony worked tirelessly to get the word out to the community and recruit volunteers.

In 2020, Super Sunday was conducted remotely. This year’s arrangement was an attempt to get volunteers safely back into the JCC. And taking the fundraiser to locations around Rhode Island allowed new volunteers to participate.

Anthony, who is also the president of Temple Shalom, said, “The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island connects our congregation to the state’s Jewish community and makes us feel less isolated. This support is possible because of generous donors, and it is our honor to spend a few joyful hours together saying thank you.”
